What the note records
The document records information about the sender, carrier, consignee and goods in an international road transport operation. UN/CEFACT publishes a Road Consignment Note (CMR) data model. A route listing in REISNO does not create a consignment note and is not a carriage contract.
What to prepare before completion
Gather the agreed details in one place and send them to the person responsible for the document. This list supports preparation; it does not replace checking the requirements of the specific movement.
- Exact names and addresses of the parties and agreed collection and delivery places.
- Goods description, package count, markings and packaging type.
- Weight and other agreed quantity details.
- References to accompanying documents and special instructions.
- The process for checking details, signing and handing over copies.
Recheck details when the booking changes
If the actual pallet count, weight or consignee changes, agree corrections before dispatch. The profile company name, warehouse address and contracting party can refer to different entities: do not automatically substitute one for another.
Check customs arrangements separately
Do not treat a CMR note as a universal set of border documents. Customs procedures depend on the transaction and goods; the European Commission describes customs transit rules separately. Agree the documentation and responsibilities for your specific trip with the carrier and customs representative.
